Future Leaders host a series of webinars and prepare for the FIDIC GAM 2020
In the spirit of developing new initiatives that are relevant to their industry, the Future Leaders are preparing various events to address some of the issues that have arisen this year, notably, to address the concerns linked to the pandemic.
The first of such steps is to host three webinars in June 2020 to discuss the national and regional steps for setting up Future Leaders groups and promoting best practices. It is hoped that this will also encourage the development and participation of engineers and help to foster collaborations within the engineering sector.
These young, up and coming engineers will have a chance to not only learn more about FIDIC but how they can best network in order to develop their careers.
Secondly, there is an international call for papers which will feed into their E-booklet that is being developed to address not only the post Covid-19 challenges but also issues relating to the sustainability, business development and lessons learnt during the pandemic.
The Future Leaders award ceremony is postponed this year. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the decision was taken to postpone the awards ceremony for the inaugural Future Leader certification event. The Future Leaders Awards of 2020 should have been part of the scheduled events at this year’s FIDIC Annual Conference, however, as the conference will now take place virtually, the Future Leaders will instead host a webinar during that time.
Previously referred to as Young Professionals, they have since 2019 been rebranded to the Future Leaders. Efforts have been made by FIDIC to further encourage the active participation and engagement of these budding professionals in the infrastructure and consulting engineering industry. Part of this effort has been the development of the Future Leaders Reference document which will provide guidance going forward on how they will work as a group.
Previously, the Past Presidents Scholarship Award was part of the efforts to recognise, reward and promote the remarkable achievements of industry leaders from around the world working in FIDIC member firms in less developed countries and came with the prize of participating in the Future Leaders Management Certificate. This programme offered engineers the opportunity to develop international leadership and communication skills. The last awards took place in Mexico City in September 2019 and it is hoped a similar event will now take place in Geneva in September 2021.
