FIDIC Credentialing holds townhall for its FIDIC Certified Contract Managers alumni
FIDIC Credentialing (FCL) held its first ever townhall meeting on 30 April 2025. It was a successful meeting with more than 80 attendees and high-level speakers from the FIDIC Board, FIDIC’s Senior Management and the FCL Management board. The discussions were moderated by the FCL General Manager, Thanos Totsikas, who welcomed all to the event and provided a guided overview on the meeting’s structure and presented the speakers.
FIDIC’s President-Elect, Alfredo Ingletti thanked all the attendees for coming and said that certification is part of FIDIC’s commitment to maintaining the highest standard of professionalism and expertise. Manish Kothari, a FIDIC board member also supported this by expressing his appreciation for the importance of this global brand in the industry.
Sir Vivian Ramsey, the Chair of the FIDIC Credentialing (FCL) Management board shared the view that having the FIDIC Certified Contract Manager (FCCM) certification is to hold the gold standard in terms of qualifications, and it is one that offers a career boost in terms of project management. For this reason, it is important to tell others about it. The Vice-Chair of the FCCM Certification Committee, Jaime Gray praised the FCCMs as this FIDIC qualification shows they are competent in managing contracts throughout the project’s lifecycle using the FIDIC forms of contract for quality assurance.
It is now well appreciated that this international qualification is suitable for professionals who are looking to increase their career prospects and broaden their global networks. From having financial controls oversight to the effective management of the project and the execution of the works, the contract manager’s role cannot be understated. Efficiently managing all these aspects can also help minimize the possibility of disputes.
The invited attendees were all members of the FIDIC Certified Contract Manager alumni from the four corners of the world. They listened intently to the presentations which provided an overview of the FIDIC Contracts – as presented by Daduna Kokhreidze, then had a quick drive into the latest training developments and courses provided by FIDIC Academy as shared by Michael Broadley, as well as updates on FIDIC Events and international collaborations as presented by Graham Pontin.
Inputs from the alumni were shared regarding the yearly monitoring and recertification procedures and costs. It was clarified that FIDIC applies a discount scheme based on World Bank’s global index which reduces the fees up to 50% – based on candidate’s country of residence.
It was also highlighted that FIDIC offers many free or low cost CPD opportunities (e.g. webinars, Academy’s on-demand fundamental courses) which qualify for the yearly monitoring requirements.
During the Q&A segment, several of the participants shared their concerns and several questions about FIDIC contracts, the training advantages and how to best meet their certification requirements in the future. It was clarified that this certification is not the same as the PMP, but it provides the industry with the assurance that FCCMs have been tested on their expertise to administer the complex aspects of running a construction or engineering projects.
In closing remarks, A. Ingletti also encouraged the alumni to further disseminate the importance of certification to their networks and to work together to help build a brighter and more sustainable future.
Before the townhall ended, many of the attendees asked if other such meetings would be held again in the future and on a more regular basis as they enjoyed the event.
Then next event which is similar to the townhall is the highly popular Contract Management Forum which will take place at the Global Infrastructure Conference which will take place this year in Cape Town, South Africa, from 21 – 23 September 2025.
